29 Jul Open Society Day in Jenfeld
AG Tanzania Park* invites you to the table in Jenfeld Au
On Saturday, June 15, we were part of a nationwide " Open Society Day" campaign. The concept is simple: individuals, groups or organizations set up a table outside and invite people to talk to them.
about democracy - and so did we. Equipped with colorful flyers about democracy, posters, sweets, coffee and mineral water, we, six middle-aged to mature women from Tansaniapark AG, set up a table
on Gyula Trebitsch Square. The square is named after Gyula Trebitsch, a German-Hungarian film producer who helped establishStudio Hamburg .Despite the suitable city location, the first hurdle became apparent: it
was so stormy that not only flyers were blown away, but also the posters . At the time, the fan mile for the European Championships on the Reeperbahn had been canceled due to strong gusts .We didn't let that stop us and carried on - no matter what our hairstyle was. We approachedpassers-by and invited them to join us at the table to discuss democracy and an open society in which everyone has a say .
After initial flippant comments such as: "I'm not up for that" or "no time" we were rewarded. A group of 11 to 14-year-old girls sat down with us and and they described their situation in the classroom, their difficulties difficulties as the only ones with parents born here, about the experience of being of being labeled a potato, of their dream jobs, of their more or less more or less committed teachers and that they like living here in Jenfelder
Live in the Au.
Openness, listening and mutual interest characterized this conversation and showed us that the concept of the "Open Society Day" worked .The exchange between the generations, the insight into other living environments and views showed us how enriching this contact beyond our own bubble can be. Not only our hairstyles, but also our image of young people's lives is a little mixed up
advised. A breath of fresh air makes it possible. Finally, we were able togain the interest of young people for the Jenfeld 48 music festival and also our guided tours in the nearby Tanzania Park.

What is it all about?
Institutions, private individuals and organizations are united year after year by a fixed date: on the third Saturday in June, they set upaction tables all over Germany to set an example locally and nationwide: For diversity and cohesion! Following the principle of "tables and chairs out", the Open Society Initiative has been calling for dialog and togetherness on Open Society Day (TdOG) since 2017 . Theaim is to open up a positive, encouraging space for encounters. Every year, around 30,000 participants take the opportunity to exchange ideas and come into contact with new people .As a holiday for the open society, TdOG creates a counterbalance to the destructive and sometimes aggressive mood that too often takes up a lot of space in public debates.
